The history of this company started in 2007, though at the time, I didn’t really give much thought to starting the business straight away. I still remember vividly that each time I was present at a celebration such as birthday, wedding, christening or any party at all, I just had ideas on how things could be better done. I was immediately able to see how things like their head ties (gele) and make up could be improved; and I more often than not offered to re-tie the head ties or apply the make up. We all know that it is very important for the celebrant to look radiant and gorgeous in her attire.
Then one faithful day, we had a wedding at church. When I got to the wedding reception, I was amazed to find that many church members were waiting for me to arrive and tie their head ties for them!!! On that day I tied no less than twenty-eight people’s head tie for them. Just as I finished, a Minister of God walked up to me and asked this question, “Don’t you think that you have a gift for great head ties here? You can do this and get paid for it”. My answer to him was “I just do it because I derive a lot of joy in making people around me look good”.
Following the above encounter, I began to realise that God does not give us a talent just for the fun of it or to just let it lie dormant. God says in the Bible that “a gift in a man makes room for him”. Then I started looking inside of me to search for and gain an understanding of other talents that I have. I realised that I am a “people person”, I make people around me laugh in such a way that they just want to hear me talk or say something, I have great inter-personal skills and speak well in public.
An incident happened in church one day; a sister and a brother were getting married the mother of the groom said to me, “my daughter, your brother is getting married soon”, in response, I started my jokes and dancing to express what an exciting event weddings are. The woman then looked at me and said to me, “you’re very entertaining and funny. Can you please consider being the MC (Master of Ceremony) my son’s Traditional wedding?” I looked at her and said to her, “you think that I can I do a good job as the MC?”. As soon as I said that, I knew I could do it. MC in Yoruba is Alaga iduro or Alaga ijoko. I informed my pastor, he prayed with me and I received confirmation that it is what God wanted me to do. My pastor attended this wedding and told me I was very good and he was proud of me. As they say, the rest is history; ever since I have not looked back; to God be the glory.
